July 9-13: FACE IT! with Polly Anderson
Ages 4th grade and up
Let’s look at faces in different ways.
Students will begin by looking at their own faces (accessorized with hats) and draw portraits. Then, with oil crayons, we’ll turn into Picassos as we render faces that depict multiple views in one portrait. Next, we’ll look at masks from different cultures and create our own with repousse (metal tooling) techniques. By scoring paper, we’ll discover how to depict a fantasy face in paper sculpture. The week ends with caricature drawings in which students will take the facial features and have fun exaggerating them.
